Records of Gurdjieff's words were carefully preserved by some of his closest pupils and published in Views from the Real World and In Search of the Miraculous. In this volume, excerpts from these works have been compiled and re-edited in an attempt to present the outlines of the teaching as a whole, independent of personal or historical context. This collection makes use of a modern translation of In Search of the Miraculous, and the excerpts from Views have been re-edited and organized by subject rather than chronologically. There is some additional biographical material and indications of how the teaching is practiced today, which broadens the perspective.  This presentation may be helpful, but it must be noted that it is not a substitute for the original material in its entirety, or for direct contact.
