PAUL DUKES On a Single Breath: A Lost Interpretation of the Lord's Prayer

"On a Single Breath" appeared in "The Unending Quest," Sir Paul Dukes' autobiographical account of his spiritual journey.  Dukes describes a dramatic meeting in St. Petersburg in 1913 with a Prince Ozay, who proceeded to teach him the correct way to recite The Lord's Prayer.

Important spiritual works at times engage fictions to make their points. “The Way of a Pilgrim,” a classic from Russian Orthodox hesychasm, is an example. There are others, extending back even to the “canonical gospels,” which include questionable narrative elements. Related uncertainties touch "On a Single Breath," as some assert that Prince Ozay was really G. I. Gurdjieff in disguise, while others disagree.

We will not speculate about the origin of the spiritual practice shared in this book and Gurdjieff’s possible role, but wish to affirm the deep essential value of this rare book.
