The Music of Gurdjieff/de Hartmann
G.I. Gurdjieff/Thomas de Hartmann
In the 1920's at the Prieure in Fontainebleau, Gurdjieff and de Hartmann worked together on a body of music, including the pieces in this collection. These pieces rang from light-hearted folk dances to chants and dances inspired by dervish orders of the Near East and Central Asia, and sacred hymns and prayers drawing upon ancient religious traditions. These are the only recordings available of Thomas de Hartmann himself playing the music he composed with Gurdjieff. The collectors' vinyl edition was published in 1985. The pieces were remastered from informal tapes made in the 1950's.
